Plaque/Tarter in teeth is a soft, sticky, whitish matlike film attached to tooth surfaces, formed largely by the growth of bacteria that colonize the teeth. Over time, it starts to compact and if is not irraticated from the area; it will form a destructable decay. Causing cavities, gum disease, or structual damage to the teeth themselves.*[wikipedia]
I think sin often feels like this. At first, starts out with a couple things here and there (a little lie, a few bucks in your favor, a hidden action). Then it starts to feel normal, barely visible and often unnoticed.
(This is when habitual actions and words start to form, often causing the most damage due to the consistent impact to the soul).
Sin likes to wiggle in and stick to the small openings we give it, allowing one action a permission, than a second, and another. Before long, sin has such an unnerving comfortably that it causes colonization and rapid reproduction in our lives. Then we get a little pain in an area (Thats our consciousness telling us something is happening).
Next, we develop real pain (a cavity, ache in our jaw, etc) that only sends a signal to our central system (brain/hearts- something is attached that should not be there!!). This is the Holy Spirit telling us to solve the problems, turning to God to irraticate the issues (like flossing).
We often forget to brush. Sometimes only once a day or even forgetting to floss at all (which is definitely my problem- ask my dentist!)
But what I hear from the Lord is this: dont forget to brush with me daily, allow me into the deep places; areas that have allowed sin to colonize like plaque on your heart.
Do not let sin compile upon itself, or it will start to feel comfortable and normal. God has not called us to live in the comfort of this realm, but to irraticate sin from our lives through the freedom Christ has given us. He already paid for it once and for all, so live in freedom.
(Like leaving the dentist with no cavities or plaque, just a squeaky clean feeling that only comes from a deep brush and floss).
Dont forget to brush with God.
